WAN gateway incorrect / not updating in WISP mode

I was having trouble at an internet cafe today getting WISP to work. I could connect to the cafe’s wifi, but couldn’t get to the internet. When looking at the GUI, I noticed that the ‘Gateway’ in the Repeater Connection information was in my home router’s IP range (well, kinda… it’s set to 10.4.10.0 which is odd in and of itself).

I tried connecting to a couple of other different networks – one was a friend’s guest network, the other was an xfinitywifi network. In all cases the ‘Gateway’ in the Repeater Connection information had the same 10.4.10.0 gateway. (see the ‘xfinity.png’ attachment). It never changed.

However, if I look at the LuCI ‘advanced configuration’ when on the xfinitywifi, I see what appears to be a proper gateway (10.224.0.1) which is not my home network (see attached ‘LuCI.png’).

Is this a bug, or is this normal? A bug? And is a problem… i.e. could this be related to why I couldn’t get internet working at the cafe I mentioned earlier? (I’ve gotten WISP to work on several other networks… one at home, my friend’s guest network… but something wasn’t working at that cafe, and I don’t think it was a login page – they don’t have one there).

FYI – I have OpenVPN configured. I tried looking to see what happened to the Gateway when it was on and off and there was no change.

Thanks.

SOLVED.

I figured out what was going on. I had a static route configured for my VPN which was on the wwan with the target network 10.4.10.0/24. I didn’t need it. Got rid of it. That changed the gateway I was seeing in the UX to what I’d expect. 🙂

Thank you kindly for bothering to report the solution.

At-750 upgrade from my-300 v2 no difference (openvpn)

Hi all, before I get into what I want to post I just want to say I’m no expert with these routers but have configured quite a few using the web gui to configure openvpn for family & friends.

I experienced an open vpn speed increase when upgrading from mt-300 v1 to the v2 which went from roughly 8mb to 12mb download using IPVANISH as a provider.  Doing some research I read that the ar-750 was capable of up to 17 mb download due to its increased cpu speed.

I received the ar-750 last night and setup in the same way I configured the mt300 device and when testing I’m maxing out at the same speeds I was getting with the mt300v2 which is around 12mb.

If this router is capable of higher speeds what am I doing wrong that’s restricting the speed? I’ve noticed there are a load of processes that are enabled by default on the router, could they be using up processing power I don’t need as I’m only interested in this router connecting to a vpn to route my traffic through.  I’ve tried various servers from different countries and the maximum I’ve hit so far is always 12mb download.

Thanks for your time in advance.

Reply To: Simple way using LuCI to convert WAN port to LAN?

Hi there,

This is exactly what I’d like to do.  I want to set my GL-MT300Nv2 up to be a wired access point and also a print server all on my main LAN.  So, I’d like to plug my ethernet wire into one of the ethernet ports, printer into the USB port and then have the second ethernet port (currently the WAN) as a spare to be able to plug a NAS into.

I copied alzhao’s switch_mode script into the /bin directory and ran it but it didn’t seem to work for me:

root@GL-MT300N-V2:/bin# switch_mode

Please specify mode: router or bridge

udhcpc: started, v1.25.1

udhcpc: sending discover

udhcpc: no lease, failing

Note that it ran without any input from me.

Any pointers please (also I followed the guide in the link provided by 800718 but no luck there also).

So, basically, just a simple way to turn the WAN port into a LAN port identical to the other LAN port…

AR150 WiFi Pineapple NANO v2.0.2 firmware

Hi. Anyone had any success with WiFi Pineapple NANO v2.0.2? I’ve compiled and loaded it, but there’s a problem with networking from the web interface. When I try to load bulletins or modules I get the “Error connecting to WiFiPineapple.com. Please check your connection.” I can successfully ping and traceroute to http://www.wifipineapple.com from the CLI via ssh. Any ideas?

Are the imagebuilders identified above valid for the AR750, if not when will it be ready (another post indicated that it was thought to be Dec 2017).

Secondly does anybody know which packages I need to install to allow a usb wifi dongle (RTL8192EU based) to act as a third radio preferably in the 2.4Ghz range.  I am currently  desk fitting various units into a travel edge device which would then be stripped down and packaged a two units allowing me to have the equivalent of a data centre whilst living out of a suitcase (90% time) without the security nightmare of cloud computing (almost all of my assignments are under Non Disclosure Agreements).

kmod-rtlwifi

kmod-rtlwifi-usb

RTL8192EU firmware from Ubuntu none of the available firmware packages seem to work

The Idea is

Unit 1 (Max 150mmX150mmx45mm)

AR750 (with usb wifi)      internal wifi network/ external network gateway

Netlink 5 Port managed switch

Zorke Z1 (Amlogic S912 armv8) 3GB ram with 4TB external usb sata disk

Power supply (5V 12A continous output)

Unit 2 (Pelican 1510 rolling case using lid as equipment bay)

Xeon-D motherboard 256GB ram running Ubuntu with KVM & LXD virtualization

Gateway bay for unit 1 supply power and further internal network

Wacom Companion 2 (i7, 16GB ram )

Thanks in advance and have a fruitful, joyful New Year.

Nevermind. Figured it out. You have to fool the getDevice() function a bit…

just change the password in the UI’s wireless settings.

ssh password can be changed using ssh

UI password can be changed using the the UI’s access page.

v2.264 still use openwrt.

I think you may need to use LEDE firmware for AR150 and install use luci.

It is possible to make the AES security engine work. There are some info on the Internet about making this work in openwrt.

But there is also info about that openvpn speed will be improved just a little. I am not sure if this worth the effort.

OpenVpn protocol itself is the problem. It is using small packet which affect encryption a lot.

I checked and seems cups is not in LEDE 17.01.

Not sure why.

Thanks for your answer.

This is what I’ve found as well.
Is there a way to install CUPS from an older package?
Or do I have to flash the existing firmware with an older one?
Which one would you recommend?

For MT300N V2 we only have LEDE 17.01 version. There is no way to install from an older version as the toolchain was changed.

You can try to compile your own firmware and add cups.

Now AR750 is offically in newest Openwrt (LEDE). https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/commit/2e5252d346e2ec832a203af778b5c1d949f0ae5f

Hi, AR750 is now official in OpenWrt https://github.com/openwrt/openwrt/commit/2e5252d346e2ec832a203af778b5c1d949f0ae5f

So you will have a clean image from OpenWrt directly.

Okay, thanks for your help.

Unfortunately I don’t have the right software tools in order to compile my own firmware.

Maybe I can find an existing package …

Please use v2.264 firmware which has this function by default.

3.04 is testing firmware for AR300MD (dual band)

For speed, are you using phone? Is the phone 150M or 300M?
