If I enable upnp, does I also need to set a port forwarding?

Thanks all, it worked! I had to use Uboot for my situation, although he Mango v2 flashing lights are a bit different than the video examples in the link. Regardless, I’m back up and running again!

You need to enable upnp in your main router. If the mini router reported that upnp is enabled and port is opened, then no need to set up port forwarder.

I have a main router which has local ip 192.168.1.1 which is inaccessible to me because I need username and password, so only my Internet Provider can access it. There is only a second router which is in bridge.

I’ve already enabled upnp in the second router and in the GL-MT300A, but I can’t even know if upnp is enabled in my main router because I can’t access it.

Can this settings be enough or do I also have to enable upnp in the main router (perhaps asking my Internet Provider to do it for me)?

However, I have no problems with programs like utorrent, so I think maybe upnp is already enabled, isn’t it?

PS: I have attached my second router’s upnp settings.

Captive portal in hotel wifi and streaming – help needed

Hi all

I am wondering if the GL.iNet GL-MT300N will solve a problem I have. I am new to this so please excuse me if this is an obvious question.

I would like to use an Amazon Fire stick with Netflix on my hotel TV. My hotel wifi can be accessed without a password but has a captive portal login. I am able to log in on my phone and in fact I am also able to log in to the captive portal on the Fire stick directly. However the Fire Stick does not get an active Internet connection even after login, although my phone does.

I was wondering if I could use the GL to solve this problem, by connecting it to the hotel public wifi and rebroadcasting the signal. If I were to connect my phone and Fire stick to the GL’s rebroadcasted network, then log in to the captive portal on my phone, would the Fire stick also be able to use the Internet through the GL? Or does it not work that way?

Has anyone else successfully done something similar? Are there any disadvantages to this approach or any other way to accomplish getting the Fire Stick online using the hotel’s wifi?

DHCP Clients Show IPs from Main Network

I’m running the GL-AR300M-Lite as a repeater and sometimes devices from my main network with LAN IP’s of 10.0.0.XXX are showing up as DHCP clients. On my main network I’m running a main router at 10.0.0.1 and a WAP at 10.0.0.2. Attached screenshot. Any suggestions as to what might be going on? Once I reboot the router it’s fine, but after a while a device or two start to show back up as DHCP clients.

On my Mac when I plug it in, it just works.  On my Win8 laptop it tries to install the drivers and installs some storage drivers but not an ethernet driver.  Where can I download the windows usb – ethernet drivers for this?  Thank you.

Hi there,

I bought a GL-MT300A ext and I’m new to all this… I need boot ethernet ports to work as LAN, too

Can anyone please provide a step by step guide how to “ssh” to the router on Windows 10 (I have PuTTY) and change the specific setting mentioned above.

Edit: now I know how to use vi… but don’t find the mentioned setting above. I only have:

config interface ‘lan’

option force_link ‘1’

option macaddr ‘e4:95:6e:40:7e:fc’

option type ‘bridge’

option proto ‘static’

option netmask ‘255.255.255.0’

option ip6assign ’60’

option hostname ‘GL-MT300A-efc’

option ipaddr ‘192.168.8.1’

option _orig_ifname ‘eth0.1 wlan0-1’

option _orig_bridge ‘true’

option ifname ‘eth0 eth0.1’

config interface ‘wan’

option force_link ‘1’

option macaddr ‘e4:95:6e:40:7e:fd’

option proto ‘dhcp’

option hostname ‘GL-MT300A-efc’

option _orig_ifname ‘eth0.2’

option _orig_bridge ‘false’

config interface ‘wan6’

option ifname ‘eth0.2’

option proto ‘dhcpv6’

config switch

option name ‘switch0’

option reset ‘1’

option enable_vlan ‘1’

@alzhao @others

Which lines should I change or remove?

Thx a lot

…. vpn is a private tunnel from you to the vpn provider on both ends of the tunnel there are virtual network interfaces and in order to exchange packets you need ip addressing. The vpn server gives your virtual interface ip from its chosen private range having one subnet with the virtual interface of the server vpn …..! of course this subnet should not match your internal or external addressing, otherwise the routing errors of the packets will begin. …..just because it works…

Does this explain why it’s possible that DHCP clients from my main LAN that uses the 10.0.0.X IP show up as connected DHCP clients in the GUI?

Haven’t tried it but IMO yes it will work.
There’s a whole thread on here about connecting to a captive portal with the router too.

Why don’t you have access to the main IPS router? Are you piggy-backing of a neighbours or something?

Just for reference incase anyone else is interested in the future I can confirm that the GPS on the EC-25 does exist and works perfectly once an antenna is connected. Woohoo!

Understood for the misfunction of auto channel with the current WiFi driver.

About the “Force all clients” option, the related script firewall.user should in principle be executed on boot and firewall restarts but I found out that with MT300N-V2 the script only runs in case of a firewall restart. Therefore “Force all clients” won’t work after reboot.

On the meanwhile (waiting for an update), a middle fix is adding the line ‘sh /etc/firewall.user’ to the /etc/rc.local file so as to force the execution of the custom rules at the end of the boot process.

Captive portals can be a pain but I usually can get them to work.  Once you do you can connect all your devices to the router and you’re good.  Check around your room and see if there is an ethernet port as this will give you much better performance than WISP mode.  Sometimes they are not active but often they still are (usually they are hidden under a desk or forgotten behind a dresser…).

I take a firestick with me when I travel and it works great.  Sometimes the hotel network is way slow but it usually works.

AR300M-Lite clean firmware

Hi,

Is there a clean firmware available for the AR300M-Lite? In your firmware directory I can only find clean images for the NAND flash, which the Lite version doesn’t have. I’ve been developing something on an MT300N, and I’m now ready to purchase more units to run it on, but the price of these has gone up on Amazon UK and the AR300M-Lite is now less than £1 more. So I’d like to use those instead as I think they will perform better, but really need the clean firmware.

Also, as it could be another option, is the MT300N-V2 likely to be available in the UK any time soon? And do you have any performance comparisons between the MT300N-V1/MT300N-V2/AR300M (i.e. CPU and WiFi throughput)?

Thanks 🙂
